Abstract:The operation of the electricity network has grown more complex due to the increased adoption of renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar power. Using energy storage technology can improve the stability and quality of the power grid. One such technology is fly- wheel energy storage systems (FESSs).
Moreover, flywheels can store and release energy with minimal losses, particularly when used for short-duration storage (on the order of minutes to a few hours). This makes them ideal for solar power applications where energy needs to be stored during the day and discharged in the evening.
However, the high cost of purchase and maintenance of solar batteries has been a major hindrance. Flywheel energy storage systems are suitable and economical when frequent charge and discharge cycles are required. Furthermore, flywheel batteries have high power density and a low environmental footprint.
