A flow battery is an electrochemical battery, which uses liquid electrolytes stored in two tanks as its active energy storage component.
The major characteristic and benefit flow batteries is the decoupling by design of power and energy. Power is determined by the size and number of cells, energy by the amount of electrolyte. Their low energy density makes flow batteries unsuited for mobile or residential applications, but attractive on industrial and utility scale.
Examination of entire arrangement of the flow battery system revealed the cause for this erratic behaviour to be incorrect tubing connections. In the normal case, the anolyte and the catholyte do not mix and the outlet solution from each side of the stack will be fed back to the same electrolyte tank.
The effects of charging current, restraining plate and heat dissipation condition on the overcharge performance of a 40 Ah lithium-ion battery are evaluated. The batteries overcharge behaviors show only minor changes with the increase of charging current, as the TTR remains at around 113 °C and the SOC TR decreases slightly.
