The formula is: Charging Time (hours) = (Battery Wh × DoD) ÷ (Panel W × Efficiency) Let’s break it down in plain English: Battery Wh is your battery energy in watt-hours. DoD is how much of the battery you want to recharge. Panel W is your solar panel’s power rating. Efficiency is the real-world system efficiency (usually 70–95%).
Same 600Wh energy needed. A 500W panel at 85% efficiency gives 425W. 600 ÷ 425 = 1.41 hours (about 1h 25m). How long does it take to charge a 5kW solar battery? Let’s say the battery is 5000Wh (5kWh). With a 1000W panel at 90% efficiency, output is 900W. 5000 ÷ 900 = 5.55 hours.
For example: A 100Ah battery at 12V is 1200Wh. If you discharge it by 50%, that’s 600Wh to replace. With a 200W solar panel at 85% efficiency, the panel delivers 170W.
