Their charge-storage performance is largely influenced by the properties of electrode materials, electrolytes and the underlying charge-storage mechanisms.
Supercapacitors as main energy storage sources In general, the specific energy of SCs is lower than that of traditional secondary batteries. For example, specific energies of lead-acid and alkaline batteries (such as Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries) are 20–40 and 40–80 Wh/kg, respectively, and those of LIBs are at least 150 Wh/kg.
Supercapacitors hold comparable energy storage capacity concerning batteries. However, the power density and cycle stability are a thousand times higher than batteries, and the power density is sustainably lower than the conventional capacitors .
