The mini-grids, developed and operated by Energicity, have the potential to provide up to 8,000 Liberians with access to electricity. This week marked the official inauguration of the BGFA co-funded solar mini-grids in the communities of Totoquelleh and Farwhenta in Gbarpolu, northern Liberia.
The aim is to develop up to 30 solar-based mini-grids in Liberia, relying on local materials and workers for the construction. It is estimated that once these are operational, the mini-grids could provide more than 4,400 residential, commercial and institutional energy service connections.
The Liberian government has made concerted efforts towards facilitating energy access in rural areas using off-grid solutions. The Liberian government has set targets to increase access to energy in rural areas from 10% in 2020, to 20% in 2025 and 35% in 2030.
It is part of a se-ries of briefing notes that provide a high-level over-view of the status of countries’ off-grid solar markets, as well as relevant policies and programs1. Liberia plans to reach electricity coverage of at least 70 percent of the population in Monrovia, and 35 percent na-tionwide by 2025.
Our photovoltaic systems and energy storage products are engineered for reliability, safety, and efficient deployment. All systems include comprehensive monitoring and control systems with remote management capabilities.
