In this Review, we describe BESTs being developed for grid-scale energy storage, including high-energy, aqueous, redox flow, high-temperature and gas batteries. Battery technologies support various power system services, including providing grid support services and preventing curtailment.
Accordingly, stable, highly ion-conductive and non-electron-conductive interfaces could help to extend the lifetime of batteries. Many batteries that are currently on service in EVs or grid systems are expected to be retired in the coming decades 185.
